SMART CASUAL – Same Mother, Different Fathers
Raw Comedy National finalists, Smart Casual is Fletcher Jones (on guitar) and Roger David (on beard), arguably Australia's smartest, most casual musical comedy duo. This two-piece will bring their low fi-com-rock to the Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney comedy festivals in 2010, and ask that you be ready, and on time. Smart Casual are from Sydney and are apologetic for that, but it is Melbourne, that has taken them into their hearts, minds and backstage riders. In 2009, they featured in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's hand-picked selection of hot new talent, 'The Comedy Zone', before going on to tour nationally and internationally on the Festival Roadshow. By international, they mean Singapore. At the 2009 Melbourne Fringe, they debuted their first full length show, Art vs Smart Casual, in which they challenge every conceivable art form – dance, painting, acting, etc - against the merits of musical comedy. If we’re being fair, it was a draw. One punter told them they are shit-hot. Unfortunately, ‘shit-hot’ isn’t actually a word, but they got what they meant. Crowd favourites at The Sydney Comedy Store throughout 2009 led to a residency in December, they also wowed audiences at the Brisbane ‘In Stitches’ Festival in June. They also ‘wowed’ each other, by agreeing to turn ‘wow’ into a verb for this website blurb In 2010, the ‘Smarties’ are touring a new show Same Mother, Different Fathers – their life story to date – two half brothers living together as a musical comedy duo. Directed by good friend and comedian Heath Franklin, they will be your dancing monkeys one more time. Encores performed on request.
‘Exceptionally clever and well executed... destined for big things.’ ‘Immediately likeable. Aussie laconic humour is alive and well’
